Advisory on Political Activities
The university, which qualifies as a "charitable" organization exempt from taxation under the Internal Revenue Code, is prohibited from directly or indirectly engaging in any political campaign activity on behalf of or in opposition to any candidate for public office. This prohibition extends to faculty and staff when acting on behalf of the university or when using university resources to engage in such activity.
Faculty and staff are free to engage in political activities in their individual capacities, but must take care that their conduct is in no way attributed to the university and that such personal activities do not occur on university time or with university resources (such as email, phone, fax, copiers, etc.). Accordingly, faculty and staff who engage in political activities in their individual capacities are responsible for adhering to the guidance provided in the university's Political Activity Policy.
